Elements of a Native public radio system

• 32 stations in the Pacific Northwest, Southwest, Plains states and Alaska, as of spring 2004 (listed below).
• Two new stations are being developed.
• Most serve predominantly rural areas. Only one, KNBA in Anchorage, Alaska, serves an urban area.
• Koahnic Broadcasting Corp., which runs KNBA in Anchorage, produces Native America Calling and National Native News at its production center in Albuquerque, N.M.
• AIROS (American Indian Radio on Satellite), based at Native American Public Telecommunications in Lincoln, Neb., operates the 24-hour satellite channel.
