Patiño succeeds Bill Stotesbery, CEO since 2004, who retired last year. COO Lori Bolding served as acting CEO during the transition.

“I am so impressed with Luis’ experience and deep involvement with empowering and educating communities through media,” said Austin PBS Board Chair Ryan Nixon in a news release. “As a leader who is intentional about diversity, community and challenging the status quo, we could not be more excited to have him join the Austin PBS team as our new CEO.”

Patiño’s previous roles at Univision include SVP, VP and national sales manager. He also worked in sales for Entravision Communications, an affiliate of Univision.

Patiño served on the Austin PBS board between 2013 and 2015.

“I believe in the power of public media, which harnesses opportunities for more diversity, strategic thought, education, and community engagement,” Patiño said in the news release. “I look forward to what the future holds for Austin PBS and am thrilled to add to the momentum of this nonprofit.”

As CEO, Patiño will lead the station’s “Moving Forward” capital campaign, which Stotesbery started in 2018. The campaign helped the station build a new headquarters on Austin Community College’s Highland Campus, set to open in August.
