Talia Schlanger will depart as host of the NPR-distributed music show World Cafe this fall to “pursue new creative endeavors,” producing station WXPN told Current Wednesday.
“Call it an occupational hazard, but talking to people about creativity and courage has inspired me to take a leap and return to my own creative roots,” Schlanger said in the statement.
Schlanger succeeded David Dye in 2017. He had hosted the program since its launch in 1991.
Before joining World Cafe, Schlanger worked as a radio and TV journalist, producer and host for the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. based in Toronto.
“Talia has made an indelible mark on World Cafe, broadening the musical diversity of our guests and enhancing the journalistic scope of the show,” said EP Bruce Warren, WXPN associate GM. “We look to build on those contributions as we seek a new host for the program.”
Gosh, I hope the new girl brings a higher lever of journalistic professionalism, less junior high crush syndrome, and a more adult-alternative playlist.
Gotta say I found her “junior high crush syndrome” refreshing. She seemed to actually enjoying talking to and being in the presence of the artists. David Dye was great but during the last few years of his tenure he seemed to be annoyed interviewing the artists. Looking forward seeing what Raina brings.
I found her musical selections was much more commercial-radio friendly, and I didn’t like it. I wasn’t discovering as much new music or as many new aritsts, and I listened less and less accordingly.
Yes, yes, and yes. The new girl is 1000 times better, but still not David Dye.
