NPR’s podcast audience grew by 25 percent in 2015, to an average of 2.5 million unique weekly users, according to the Pew Research Center’s State of the News Media report released Wednesday.

The annual report from the center’s Project for Excellence in Journalism tracks trends in broadcast, digital and print media, both commercial and public.

While NPR’s podcast listeners increased last year, terrestrial broadcast audiences remained flat at 26 million average total weekly listeners.

The report also examined public television’s weeknightly news magazine, PBS NewsHour, which sustained a 2 percent dip in broadcast audience over the last year.

A breakdown of NewsHour’s revenue showed foundation backing growing to 71 percent of the show’s non-public funding in 2015, up from 56 percent in 2014. Revenue from corporate underwriting fell during the same period to 23 percent of total non-public funding, down from 41 percent in 2014.

Across all media, consumers of news continued to use mobile platforms more often. Of Pew’s list of 110 news outlets, 99 had more unique visitors on mobile than on desktop.
