NPR programming will stay on the air in Palm Beach, Fla., thanks to an agreement between Miami’s WLRN and the Educational Media Foundation, a religious broadcasting network.

Under the agreement, first reported Friday by the Palm Beach Post, WLRN will broadcast its programming on 101.9 FM, a translator that until earlier this year was part of the Classical South Florida network. In return, WLRN will reimburse EMF for operating costs of the translator.

Classical South Florida went off the air in May after its operator, Minnesota-based American Public Media Group, sold the four-station network to EMF for $21.7 million. EMF had already agreed to allow WLRN to air its programming on the translator in a temporary arrangement after the sale.

The new station will be branded as 101.9, NPR for the Palm Beaches, according to the Post.

APMG had lost money for years on operating the Classical South Florida network, which it had spent $30 million to create. The sale to EMF is still pending approval from the FCC.
