Kansas-based High Plains Public Radio lost one of its signals, KGUY 91.3 FM in Guymon, Okla., after safety concerns led to the tower being taken down.
HPPR said the antenna was taken down last weekend due to “serious safety concerns.”
“This decision was made at the broadcast tower site after a crew unsuccessfully tried to climb the tower to make repairs,” HPPR said on its website. “The severity of the tower damage led to a decision by the tower owner, American Tower, to take the tower down immediately.”
HPPR licensee Kanza Society Inc. will work on finding a new tower site and repairing the equipment. The pubcaster operates signals in Kansas, Texas, Oklahoma and Colorado.
A previous article about this story made it seem like HPPR was not notified by American Tower that they were taking the tower down prior to its demolition. In other words, listeners suddenly heard the signal disappear with no warning, and the station didn’t know what was wrong until their engineer arrived on-site to find the tower, ehem, “missing.”
