A team consisting of the creators of Serial and This American Life will premiere the first show next month from their new podcast production company.
This American Life producer Brian Reed will host the first podcast from Serial Productions, S-Town. Set in a town in rural Alabama, the podcast will focus on “a nasty feud, a hunt for hidden treasure and the mysteries of one man’s life,” according to a press release. It has been in the works for three years, since before Serial’s launch, according to EP Julie Snyder. Snyder was also a co-creator of Serial.
“The story has this feeling and mood that’s different from anything else we’ve done,” said Ira Glass, creator and host of This American Life, in the release. “I don’t think people have heard a show like this.” Glass joins Serial co-creator Sarah Koenig and Starlee Kine, a TAL contributor who also hosted and produced Gimlet’s Mystery Show podcast, on the editorial team for S-Town.
All of S-Town’s episodes will be released simultaneously in March.
Serial’s third season is expected to launch this summer, Snyder said last fall at the Third Coast International Audio Festival.
