Serial, the hit podcast from WBEZ and This American Life, announced Wednesday in an email newsletter from Sarah Koenig, the host of the show’s first season, that it’s producing two seasons of episodes.

“[W]e are hard at work reporting not one, but two distinct new stories,” Koenig said in the email. “This means we’re planning on a third season of Serial. And we hope it means we can reduce the amount of time between the end of Season Two and the beginning of Season Three.”

The second season will launch later this fall and the third season airs next spring, the email said.

No details were given about the content of the new seasons.

“Sorry — we can’t tell you details about the new stories yet,” the email said. “What we can say is that they’re very different from Season One, but no less interesting to us.”

In the email, Koenig also pointed to a new legal development in the Adnan Syed case, which “essentially paused the case.”
