PBS and APT programs win 14 Daytime Emmys

PubTV’s winner in the Daytime Entertainment Emmy category was Lidia Bastianich, cited for outstanding culinary host in Lidia’s Italy, distributed by American Public Television.

PBS’s Sesame Street captured seven Daytime Entertainment Creative Arts Emmys, including top awards in children’s program categories: It was named best preschool series and former puppeteer Kevin Clash was named best performer in a children’s series for his role as Elmo. Cited for the Emmys were producers Carol Lynn Parente, Clash, Nadine Zylstra, Tim Carter, April Coleman, Benjamin Lehmann, and Stephanie Longardo.

Additional Emmys recognized Sesame Street for outstanding television creative arts, including: directing in a children’s series (Ken Diego, Clash, Joey Mazzarino, Matt Vogel); writing in a children’s series (Mazzarino, Molly Boylan, Annie Evans, Christine Ferraro, Emily Perl Kingsley, Luis Santeiro, Ed Valentine, Belinda Ward, John Weidman).

Technical craft Emmys cited Sesame Street for achievements in: main title and graphic design (Rickey Boyd, Michael Lapinski, Rhea Borzak, Andrew Atteberry, Julian Herrera); multiple-camera editing (Todd James, Tim Carter, Jesse Averna, John Tierney); sound editing (Chris Prinzivalli, Michael Barrett, Michael Croiter, Jorge Muelle, Chris Sassano, Dick Maitland).

Two Daytime Creative Arts Emmys went to Joseph Rosendo’s Travelscope, an APT-distributed series: Joseph Rosendo won for direction in a lifestyle/culinary program and Jason Grigg for sound mixing, live action. Also, APT’s Biz Kid$ received the Emmy for single-camera editing by Alex Carrillo and Jim Golingo, and Equitrekking won for single-camera photography, film or electronic, by Greg Barna.

Word Girl, a PBS Kids program, won for animation writing (Tom Martin, Eric Shaw, Jack Ferraiolo, Jayne Hamil, Ryan Raddatz). And Leeza Gibbons won for host in a lifestyle/travel program for PBS’s My Generation, a production of AARP.

The winners of Daytime Entertainment Emmys were announced June 14 in Los Angeles, and Creative Arts Emmy winners were revealed June 16 in Beverly Hills, Calif.
